How we work
At Innate we use ketamine therapy to treat adults and teens suffering from a variety of health conditions, including: depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorders, postpartum depression, and people facing life-threatening or terminal illness existential anxiety. We design individualized treatment plans to help you get back in touch with the person you were born as — your Innate self.
In this feature, Carl and Tia talk about the path that led them to this meaningful work, and the philosophy behind it.
As a husband and wife, doctor and nurse team, we provide warm, professional care that you won’t find elsewhere.
Multidisciplinary & specialized care
We work in a multidisciplinary care team, led by a physician with special training in the use of ketamine for psychological conditions. Staff are trained to provide the special support this unique treatment requires. Each client’s treatment is individually tailored to their needs. When indicated, clients will work with one of Innate’s therapists, all of whom have been specially trained in ketamine assisted psychotherapy, or KAP.
Innate provides highly specialized care that is not easily delivered in conventional psychiatry and psychotherapy offices. We communicate regularly with referring clinicians to keep them updated on their client’s response to treatment. We are embedded in the community of psychiatrists and therapists in the area, and pride ourselves on the “warm handoff” in care.
We use standardized measures to follow our clients' response to treatment over time. While ketamine therapy is effective for many, it does not work for everyone. Often, we won’t know if the therapy will be effective until you have at least 3 or 4 treatment sessions. That said, IV ketamine treatment has been shown to be durably effective in treating depression in the majority of patients receiving it.
What is ketamine therapy at Innate like?
Ketamine + Therapy
Sessions can last between 2 – 3 hours depending on your appointment type. Ketamine may be administered by IV infusion, oral lozenges, or IM injection (a “shot”). Your ketamine session may be followed by psychotherapy. The medicine itself lasts for about 45 min — the rest is about recovery, therapy, and integration of your experience.
Guided + Safe
As the medicine works, your mind will feel very different from your normal, everyday consciousness. This may allow you to see things from a different perspective, helping you to feel less ‘stuck’. Innate’s team of medical personnel and psychotherapists are experts in helping clients to safely extract the maximum benefit from the treatment, while feeling supported and cared for during the process.
Comfort + Care
Our treatment suites are comfortable and calming, more like a living room than a medical office. You will have the option to wear eye shades and listen to music for the duration of the infusion. Our experienced staff are there to offer reassurance and support if things feel difficult, scary or confusing.
